Employees of the Quarter Announced at BIT!

On a quarterly basis, BIT recognizes staff in honor of their outstanding performance and dedication to our agency, state government and the citizens of South Dakota. This time around, we gladly recognize DJ Hausmann, Betty Hanson, & Chris Marsh for their high standards of excellence and thank them for all they do.

DJ Hausmann receiving his award from David Zolnowsky,
BIT Commissioner

DJ has been serving within BIT since 2001. Since beginning his career within Tele’s LAN Services, DJ has been a valued member of the Technical Administration & Integration Team in the Data Center.  DJ performs physical infrastructure duties from rack mounting, to wiring, inventory, and multiple levels of server administration, as well as working on the newly emerging area of virtualization, VMWare.  This virtualization saves the state a tremendous amount of expense in hardware, software, licensing, and environmental dollars.  During the past two years, DJ has taken on a primary role, partnering with fellow Data Center, Network Technology, and Point of Contact personnel in coordinating, implementing and presenting the State’s first Microsoft SharePoint environment. To date, DJ has presented the technology to most of the State’s agencies with hundreds of users currently evaluating the service for their agency business-critical needs. In response to today’s passionate drive of users towards mobile devices and applications, DJ has been partnering with many in BIT to better deliver mobile services to users—delivering more convenient, safe and secure access to their needed State resources.

Betty Hanson receiving her award from David Zolnowsky,
BIT Commissioner
Betty has worked for the state of South Dakota for 29 years and has been instrumental in the testing and implementation of Microsoft Lync. Betty took the lead as the point person for LAN Services on the project working through issues with the vendor to make this a smooth rollout. In addition, Betty is involved with the ITAM project. ITAM is IT Asset Management to manage software for compliance, hardware and software discovery as well as contracts and lifecycle of assets. She successfully manages multiple projects as she transitions into her new position working with agencies to make sure they are compliant with all software. In her spare time, Betty is into fitness while enjoying the outdoors, specifically triathlons, which keeps her busy on the majority of weekends during the summer.

Chris joined BIT Development nearly one year ago as the State GIS Coordinator for South Dakota and GIS Team Lead. Since joining Development, Chris has led multiple initiatives within GIS modernizing the GIS infrastructure with ArcGIS Online and promoting Agile Development via Scrum on several different projects for DENR and DOT. Chris recently worked as Scrum Master (the Scrum equivalent to Project Manager) on BIT’s first mobile application “Mobile Phonebook App”. The app is an Android version of the DP51 phonebook web application. The app will be available to State workers this quarter, and an iOS version is already underway. Chris also manages the work of a team of four GIS developers and three interns. Chris was nominated for Employee of the Quarter as he exemplifies the Development division’s responsibility to research and promote modernized practices and technology to better support our clients’ needs.
