Roger Reed: Life Outside BIT

Are you a superhero fanatic? Do you like a good comic book from time to time? Well you are in luck—BIT employs a very talented author of superhero short stories!

The BIT blog is adding posts spotlighting BIT staff members and their unique passions, hobbies, and achievements outside of their BIT duties. This time around we gladly focus on Roger Reed for his distinctive passion of trying new things. Recently he tried his hand at writing and it was a success!

"It is not by any means the 'great American novel'.  It is just a
collection of stories about superheroes.  […] these stories are
about superheroes that I invented. I enjoy reading these stories
and I hope that others will feel the same."

Rogers’s main duties at BIT as a Network Security Analyst take up the majority of his time. When he isn’t working away at the desk he continues his efforts with yard work, pets, carving wood, learning new instruments (the harp!), and most notably writing books.

Starting many, many years ago Roger has always had a main hobby of reading. From time to time since college he dabbled in writing stories. It wasn’t until the last 10 years that he began getting serious about writing. After unsuccessfully finding a variety superhero books (not comic books) to read, Roger decided to try his hand at writing. He began writing his first story in his spare time after work. After sometime he finished it…better yet, he enjoyed it! Several years ago he started another book, Superheroes of Granite City, which would be a collection of short stories. It took a while, but he finished, edited, and published the book! Humbly he talked about his book, “It is not by any means the “great American novel”.  It is just a collection of stories about superheroes.  Due to copyright and trademark restrictions, these stories are about superheroes that I invented.  I enjoy reading these stories and I hope that others will feel the same.”

In the short time that the book has been available there has been a number of purchases which is encouraging to Roger.  Hey, who knows, it may be a huge hit! If successful enough Roger would like to buy a new laptop to write his next book. What if it’s amazingly successful you ask?  In good humor as always, Roger has your answer, “I am not holding my breath!”
