Technology Engineer - Job ID 2258
This position performs two core functions for the state's information technology infrastructure. The first is the day-to-day operations of the in-place security solutions while the second is the identification, investigation and resolution of security breaches detected by those systems. Secondary tasks may include involvement in the implementation of new security solutions, participation in the creation and or maintenance of policies, standards, baselines, guidelines and procedures as well as conducting vulnerability audits and assessments. This position is expected to be fully aware of state government enterprise's security goals as established by its stated policies, procedures and guidelines and to actively work towards upholding those goals.   

A degree in computer science, networking, telecommunications or a related field and 2-12 years of technology engineering experience depending on the technology engineer level assignment.

Software Engineer I – Job ID 2337
Software Engineers work closely with South Dakota state agency staff to create and maintain business applications. Jobs in this family perform software engineering work that is focused on partnering with clients to understand their business processes, then to identify, define, and build applications that will assist the agency in providing services to the citizens of the state.

Incumbents work with a BIT mentor to perform simple application development tasks depending on the skills of the incumbent. Software engineering level assignment (SE1 or SE2) will be determined by the education and experience of the incumbent. Working from a remote office outside of Pierre or Aberdeen may be allowed after 6 months of on-site experience.

Degree in Software Engineering or related field and up to 6 years of software engineering experience is preferred.

Software Engineer III – Job ID 2339
Software Engineers work closely with South Dakota state agency staff to create and maintain business applications. Jobs in this family perform software engineering work that is focused on partnering with clients to understand their business processes, then to identify, define, and build applications that will assist the agency in providing services to the citizens of the state.

Software engineering level assignment (SE3 or SE4) will be determined by the education and experience of the incumbent. Degree in Software Engineering or related field and 6 or more years of software engineering experience is preferred.

Java Developer – Job ID 2070
The State of South Dakota is seeking a high-energy, innovative and motivated leader to play a key role on a team involved in the design, development, testing, and deployment of a large Medicaid application. This involves leading and mentoring teams of 2-5 software engineers. This role is both customer facing and engineer facing so the ideal candidate must have an 'ownership mentality' and a strong personality to ensure customer satisfaction.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Under direction from the manager, leads a team of 2-5 software engineers on projects and leads teams through the entire software development lifecycle;
  • Responsible for designing and writing J2EE compliant code utilizing standard IDE's;
  • Participates in code reviews, meetings and discussions with Functional/Team Leads to understand the requirements and work out a design;
  • Writes Java/XML/PLSQL/SQL code to meet the requirements and maintain coding standards;
  • Mentors other Java developers in enhancing their skills; 
  • Continues enhancing own Java skills on new practices, frameworks and standards.
