State Broadband Initiative Updates

After a nearly twelve-month effort to revise the South Dakota Broadband Initiative's federal grant award and budget, approval was received in March. The funding shifts allow for a 50 percent expansion in grant-equipment offerings to Community Anchor Institutions, additional opportunities to travel and carry on the digital dialog and more technical assistance and planning for anchor institutions.

The Computer Ownership grant program completed the final procurement's and deliveries of equipment funded by the second round of grant applications during this first quarter as well. Over $205,000 worth of technology projects were funded, at least in part, by this effort. The third round of grant applications is underway in a continued effort to upgrade and strengthen the technology infrastructure in community anchor institutions across South Dakota.

Lastly, the 7th successful federal data submission of mapping out South Dakota's broadband providers was completed ahead of schedule and included the most extensive verification and collection activities to-date.
