Cybersecurity is a growing field and South Dakota is ready
to lead the way. Governor Noem has made this a priority for our
state and she is focused on offering training and opportunities for our
graduates here in South Dakota. Our nation desperately needs more students to
become cybercrime fighters and with Governor Noem’s push in cybersecurity, it
has given the Bureau of Information and Telecommunications (BIT) the
opportunity to launch our first Cyber Residency partnership with Dakota State
University (DSU).
This August, four students from DSU will be participating in
this pilot program. Dakota State University is one of the most
technologically-advanced universities in the Midwest and they are producing
graduating classes of well-qualified cyber professionals. As greater priority
is placed on strengthening cybersecurity, we are increasingly looking to universities
like DSU to produce skilled professionals to defend our networks and
infrastructure. To encourage students to enter cybersecurity, BIT has been partnering
with DSU to create an educational path to promote cybersecurity and recruit
students to compete in the cyber world. The Cyber Residency will expose these
selected students to real-life work and what is required of the cybersecurity
workforce. As cyber threats continue to evolve, we are relying on programs like
the Cyber Residency to provide a steady stream of cybersecurity professionals entering
the workforce.
Cyber space is the space we live in now and so does the
criminals. We need to continue to grow the cybersecurity community and keep it
growing to stay ahead of cyber criminals. BIT will continue to pilot
cybersecurity opportunities with DSU to create the next generation of cyber
warriors right here in our great state of South Dakota.
Make sure to follow the BIT blog as we give monthly updates
on the Cyber Residency program.
Providing RESOURCES. Creating COMMUNICATION. Sharing SUCCESS.
