Capitol WebCam Getting a Modern, and More Secure, Facelift

On January 17th Shannon Neubauer, the Regional Sales Manager for Axis Communications (https://www.axis.com/us/en/) presented BIT with a new network camera to replace an old Axis camera that is beyond the lifecycle of the device. The new camera will be mounted on the outside of the Kniep building and is used to provide a feed to the South Dakota Public Broadcasting Capitol webcam.

During a discussion on BIT’s previously existing network camera it was mentioned that the camera was no longer eligible to receive software and security patches. Therefore, if any issues occurred with the camera, they needed to be addressed manually.

Upon learning this, BIT POC, Tim Henderson, reached out to Shannon to inquire about a replacement. Much to his surprise, Axis Communications decided to donate a brand new camera supported by them. This new camera is designed to be mounted outside and is completely waterproof and provides a much crisper HD image. Replacement of the previous camera is in process and should be available to the public soon on our Public Broadcasting webpage (http://www.sdpb.org/webcams).

Thank you to Axis Communications for your donation! BIT sincerely appreciates it!
