Broadband in South Dakota

Did you know that BIT, in partnership with the South Dakota Department of Education and 15 local telecommunications providers, is leading the state's Broadband Initiative?

South Dakota’s Broadband Initiative is part of a national effort to determine where broadband access is available and what capacity it has. Broadband commonly refers to high-speed Internet access that is always available.

As part of the project, BIT will also execute and maintain strategies for promoting broadband. Initiatives focus on providing broadband education, awareness, training, access, equipment and support, particularly where broadband technology has been underutilized.

You can help broadband expand across the state by taking a speed test. It is simple. Just go to http://speedtest.sd.gov.
